Alphacast

The Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) is an index of the prevailing direction of economic trends in the manufacturing and service sectors. Purchasing Managers’ Index™ (PMI™) data are compiled by S&P. PMI data are available for over 40 economies across a range of broad sectors including manufacturing, services, construction and the entire private sector. Each national PMI dataset is compiled from questionnaire responses from a survey panel of senior purchasing executives (or similar) at around 400 companies. The headline PMI is a number from 0 to 100. A PMI above 50 represents an expansion when compared with the previous month. A PMI reading under 50 represents a contraction, and a reading at 50 indicates no change. The further away from 50 the greater the level of change.  The information of this index previously corresponded to the publication by IHS Markit and is now handled by S&P.

This dataset includes monthly indices of Economic Policy Uncertainty for 22 countries plus two GDP-weighted indices of Global Economic Policy Uncertainty. The data series cover the period from January 1997 to the present for all countries, and they go back to earlier years for certain countries.
