This dataset includes the World Press Freedom Index. The purpose is to compare the level of freedom enjoyed by journalists and media in 180 countries and territories. The Index is based on a score ranging from 0 to 100 that is assigned to each country or territory, with 100 being the best possible score (the highest possible level of press freedom) and 0 the worst. This score is calculated on the basis of two components: a quantitative tally of abuses against media and journalists in connection with their work; and a qualitative analysis of the situation in each country or territory based on the responses of press freedom specialists (including journalists, researchers, academics, and human rights defenders) to an RSF questionnaire available in 24 languages.

This dataset includes the Geopolitical Risk Index. Dario Caldara and Matteo Iacoviello developed this index as a measure of adverse geopolitical events and associated risks, based on the frequency of newspaper articles reporting on geopolitical tensions. The index tracks the evolution of geopolitical risk and its economic effects since 1900. It spikes during major historical events such as the two World Wars, the start of the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and after 9/11. Higher geopolitical risk is linked to lower levels of investment, stock prices, and employment. It is also associated with a higher probability of economic disasters and greater downside risks to the global economy.

This dataset includes Independence of the Judiciary. Independence of the judiciary indicates the extent to which the judiciary is independent of control from other sources, and includes whether or not judges are safe from removal by other governmental branches or if their actions can be challenged in the courts. The scoring scheme is as follows: as an institution, the judiciary is considered (0) not independent, (1) partially independent, and (2) generally independent.

This dataset includes the indicator People using at least basic sanitation services, urban (% of urban population). It represents the percentage of the urban population using at least basic sanitation services—defined as improved sanitation facilities that are not shared with other households. This indicator covers both individuals using basic sanitation services and those with access to safely managed sanitation. Improved sanitation facilities include flush or pour-flush systems connected to piped sewer systems, septic tanks, or pit latrines; ventilated improved pit latrines; composting toilets; and pit latrines with slabs.
