This dataset includes quarterly consumer confidence index published by Bureau for Economic Research (BER). Consumer confidence is expressed as a net balance, which is calculated as the percentage of respondents expecting an improvement / good time to buy durable goods less the percentage expecting a deterioration / bad time to buy durable goods.
Theoretically, the FNB/BER CCI can vary between –100 and 100, but the index has fluctuated between –33 (indicating an extreme lack of confidence) and +23 (indicating extreme confidence) since the BER started measuring consumer confidence comprehensively in 1982. The average of the index is +2 and could therefore be regarded as the neutral level.

This dataset provides bimonthly data from the Consumer Confidence Survey (CCS) conducted by the Reserve Bank of India. The survey collects information on people's current perceptions compared to a year ago and their expectations for the next year regarding the general economic situation, employment prospects, overall price trends, and personal income and spending in 19 major cities. The Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) and Future Expectations Index (FEI) are calculated based on the net responses related to economic conditions, income, spending, employment, and price levels for both the current period (compared to one year ago) and the year ahead. These indices are represented as CSI = 100 + Average of Net Responses for the mentioned parameters, as well as FEI = 100 + Average of Net Responses for the same parameters, respectively.

The applied questionnaire is the same as the supermarket survey and takes into account only those sales with invoices or tickets issued by a registered person in charge to a final consumer, monotributist and/or exempt. BAI/BEI gives a snapshot of demand conditions in the manufacturing sector by combining nine parameters – (1) overall business situation, (2) production, (3) order books, (4) inventory of raw material, (5) inventory of finished goods, (6) profit margin, (7) employment, (8) exports and (9) capacity utilisation. A value above 100 indicates an expansion of the overall business activity and value below 100 indicates contraction.
